30 Mar Explore Sensory-Friendly Fun with Your Family at the Australian National Maritime Museum!
The Maritime Museum Sydney is excited to share some fantastic news. In honor of World Autism Understanding Day on April 2nd, they’re teaming up with Aspect to create a sensory-friendly experience for all families, especially those with children on the autism spectrum or with sensory sensitivities.
Here’s what you can expect:
๐ Reduced Sensory Input: They’re adjusting things like audio levels and lighting throughout the museum to create a more comfortable environment.
๐ธ Helpful Signage: Look out for signs in each space that provide information about potential sensory triggers, so you can make informed choices about where to go.
๐ญ Relaxed Theatre Screenings: Enjoy movies with reduced volume and softer lighting for a more relaxed viewing experience.
๐คซ Quiet Space: If you or your child need a break, there’s a designated quiet area available.
๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ Supportive Staff: The museum staff and volunteers have received special training to better assist visitors with hidden disabilities.
๐ Sensory Backpacks: They’ve got sensory backpacks available for both kids and adults to borrow at the front desk.
Plus, did you know that the museum has been a registered Sunflower venue since 2022? They regularly host Sensory Friendly Sundays to make sure everyone can enjoy their exhibits and activities.
Annalice Creighton, the Programs and Activations Coordinator, shared, “We’re thrilled to partner with Aspect for World Autism Understanding Day and beyond. Our goal is to make sure every family feels welcome and has a great time exploring the museum together.”
So mark your calendars for April 2nd and get ready for a maritime adventure that’s inclusive for all!
