WIN: Three Aussie mums turning everyday parenting problems into clever ideas

From messy baby play to keeping children visible at the beach, these Australian mums have turned familiar parenting frustrations into small businesses of their own.

Sometimes the best business ideas come from the everyday challenges of raising children. Whether it’s finding a practical solution to nappy-free playtime or making children’s clothing more suitable for outdoor adventures, these three Australian mums decided to create the products they couldn’t find.

Making messy play easier

When Jacqui Burton couldn’t find a suitable mat for her baby’s nappy-free tummy time, she created Rudie Nudie Designs. Her waterproof, machine-washable playmats are designed to make messy play easier, with bright patterns and larger options suitable for family picnics.

Standing out at the beach

Wondering why children’s wetsuits were almost always black inspired Sophie to establish Days in the Sand. Her range of brightly coloured children’s wetsuits aims to make little swimmers easier to spot at the beach or pool. While bright swimwear can improve visibility, close adult supervision around water remains essential.

Sun protection beyond the beach

For Ash, a mum of three, the challenge was finding comfortable sun-protective clothing that children could wear beyond the beach. Her solution was Sol & Tide, a range of everyday-style sun shirts advertised as UPF 50+, designed for everything from playground visits to childcare and family outings.

These three businesses have something in common: they began with a mum recognising a problem and deciding to do something about it. And sometimes, a solution created for one family turns out to be useful for many others.
