27 Jul Young Archie 2024 winners announced

Inspired by Australia’s oldest portrait prize, the Archibald Prize, the Young Archie competition invites young artists aged 5 to 18 years to submit a portrait of someone who is special to them and plays an important role in their life.

Congratulations to the young artists

Winner 5-8 year olds: Ella Lee Fowler Under the Sea

Winner 9-12 year olds: Hollie Au My Art Teacher

Winner 13-15 year olds Leon Do Xavier on a Tuesday

Winner 16-18 year olds Leah Blatchford Mum through time

In its 12th year, the number of entries in the Young Archie competition leapt again from 3400-plus in 2023 to a new record of over 4000. From 8 June to 8 September 2024, finalists are exhibited at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in a free display alongside the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes and honourable mentions are displayed at the SH Ervin Gallery alongside the Salon des Refusés.
