31 Jan Everything You Need to Know About This Slime Craze
Have your kids gone slime-making crazy?! Here is everything you need to know about this latest DIY kids toy trend and how to make it.
You know your child is slime OBSESSED when you realise that you’ve spent your latest paycheck (yet again!) on glue and all things that glitter, as well as the fact your Tupperware seems to be disappearing from the kitchen cupboards.
So what’s with this obsession with all things slime? Well it’s super easy to make, looks AWESOME and no matter what age you are, there is always something fascinating about goop! For kids – it feels amazing in their hands, but for parents, well we just want to know why is it all through the house!
So we have put together a little ‘101’ of all things slime; what it is, how to make it and how to keep it safely stored away when not in use.
One thing to note; when it comes to this new sort of slime, we’re not talking your average green goop – nope, slime now can be made in all sorts of colours with so many sparkly and pretty materials thrown into the mix. This type of slime can resemble a unicorn mane or something from a colourful intergalactic space world!
How to make intergalactic unicorn slime
For this slime recipe, we have decided not to hold back – we’re throwing everything in! Feel free to play around with this one, make it your own or add or minus any of its gooey and sparkly ingredients.
You’ll Need
1 bottle of Elmer’s Glue (more bottles if you want a big batch)
1/2 TBSP Baking Soda
Few drops of food colouring (pink, blue, yellow for unicorn shades)
1 cup water
Baby oil
Foam shaving cream
Scented foam hand wash
A well-sealed Tupperware container
Optional
1/2 tsp. borax
To decorate with
glitter glue or plain glitter
Bean bag balls
Sequins
Kinetic sand
Small colourful metallic beads

How To Make The Slime
Squeeze one bottle of Elmer’s glue into a medium bowl with the baking soda.
Stir in 1/2 cup to 1 cup of shaving foam, depending on how fluffy you want your slime to be.
Add a few drops of food colouring to the mix and stir.
Mix in a few drops of baby oil, which is supposed to make it less sticky.
Add borax solution a teaspoon at a time until the mixture forms a clump in the bowl. (This step is optional, but does help keep everything together).
Knead the slime and keep adding shaving foam if you want it more puff or if too sticky add some more baby oil or borax solution, if using.
The scented hand wash will also add more fluff and will make it smell nice. So squeeze in a bit to get an extra fluffy consistency.
Now for the fun bit! Play around with your slime by adding some decorations such as; bean bag balls, glitter, sequins, kinetic sand or beads.
Store in a well- sealed container to keep your slime from drying out or getting everywhere!
Note: After some time mixtures can get runny or sticky from play, so if this happens you can had more shaving foam and glue to hold together and make fluffy again.
