We take a look at the awesome Aussie kids’ clothing brand Sparrow & B, that encourages kids to explore the world of make-believe through their dress-up clothes.

Can you tell us about Sparrow & B?

We are Belinda and Sandi, two friends who creatively joined forces in 2013 to form Sparrow & B and design handmade children’s costumes. We both feel passionate about creating imaginative dress-ups that inspire little ones. At first it began as a hobby, but before long we saw that many other parents felt the same way, and the business quickly grew to the point where we could see our dreams becoming a reality.

What inspired you to start your own label?

Our little business was born from a shared love of dressing up and creative play. We loved making costumes for our own children and saw a gap in the market for quality and quirky pieces that would inspire young minds and hearts.

What does it mean to you to be Australian creatives, who are also mothers?

It means juggling numerous balls at once. It’s definitely a crazy ride running your own business coupled with motherhood, but there is something magical about honouring your creativity, believing in yourself and following your dreams. We hope our children grow up knowing they can carve out their own path and ’embrace their wild’…

Is there anything else you’d like to share with other mums who may be trying to combine their lives as creatives, designers and caretakers?

Give yourself a time-out. Not just time hopping onto the computer to do a few emails, or flicking through social media – real phone-off time-out. Go for a massage, a bath, a drive through the country. Anything that realigns you back with yourself, so you have enough energy to go back to the juggling – you’ll need it!

Sparrow & B is stocked in a select number of bricks and mortar stores around Australia and internationally, and also sell direct through their website and Etsy shop.
