Tara Treasures has become the first toy brand in Australia to receive Fairtrade Certification—marking a major milestone for ethical children’s products. Founded by Melbourne mum-of-two Jooli Chan, the brand offers handcrafted felt toys made by women in Nepal using traditional techniques.
Each toy is created with care using 100% natural wool from New Zealand and dyed with non-toxic, eco-friendly colours. Tara Treasures’ charming range includes felt foods, animals, finger puppets, space and nature-themed sets, cot mobiles, and even toys inspired by Australian classics like Wombat Stew, The Gruffalo, and May Gibbs stories.
Jooli and her husband Jag—who grew up in Nepal—launched the brand to support communities recovering from the 2015 earthquake. Many of the artisans are mothers who work from home or in small workshops, preserving culture and balancing family life while earning a fair wage.

The business, which began as a market stall, now supplies 800 retailers globally and is expected to reach $5.5 million in revenue this financial year.
