14 May Win George the Farmer books for your school this Book Week
Is your child’s school, preschool or childcare centre getting ready for Book Week? A much-loved Australian book giveaway is back for 2026, helping children learn where their food and fibre come from through fun farming stories.
In 2026, Book Week will run from Saturday 22 August to Friday 28 August, with the theme Symphony of Stories.
And if your child loves stories about animals, farming, food, or life on the land, this is a lovely opportunity to share with their school, preschool or childcare centre.
Rabobank’s Rabo Community Fund has teamed up with Australian ‘edu-tainment’ brand George the Farmer for the fifth year, offering schools and early learning settings across Australia the chance to win a set of books that help children understand where their food and fibre come from.
What schools can win
This year, 100 educational institutions across Australia will each receive a collection of 14 Australian-made George the Farmer storybooks for their libraries.
To mark the five-year milestone, five winning schools will also receive a live online Meet the Author session with George the Farmer founder and author Simone Kain. The session will include a personal video message from a Rabo Client Council member, helping students connect with a real-life farmer and the story of how food is produced.
Who can enter?
The competition is open to a wide range of educational settings, including:
Primary schools, kindergartens, preschools, early learning centres and childcare centres.
Parents and carers can help by letting their child’s school, preschool or centre know about the giveaway and sharing the competition link.
Why it’s worth sharing
The George the Farmer stories are designed to make agriculture relatable for young children, whether they live in the city, a regional town or on a farm.
Rabobank community engagement manager Skye Ward said the stories connect strongly with rural children because George feels familiar, while also helping urban children build a better understanding of agriculture and the people who produce our food and fibre.
Since the partnership began, more than 7,000 George the Farmer books have been donated to educational institutions and events across Australia, reaching more than 700,000 children.
George the Farmer began as an interactive story app in 2015 and has since grown to include books, videos, music, virtual reality experiences, performances and free curriculum-aligned resources.
A Book Week favourite
For many families, Book Week is also costume week — and George and Ruby Farmer have become familiar faces at school parades.
Simone Kain said the team often receives photos of children dressed as George and Ruby during Book Week. She said the partnership aims to improve agricultural literacy and spark children’s interest in future careers in the sector.
How to enter
Entries open Monday 11 May and close Sunday 14 June 2026. Winners will be announced before Book Week so the books can arrive in time for the August celebrations.
