The Safe and Tested Blackout Pram Cover That Frees Parents from the ‘Nap Trap’
When Carlene Rotblat became a mum in 2017, her life revolved around her baby’s sleep. Struggling with postpartum anxiety, she was afraid to leave home for fear of disrupting naps. “I was a prisoner in my own home. I can count on one hand the number of times I left my house in the first four months,” she recalls.
Desperate for a solution, she hired a sleep consultant, but the controlled crying method only worsened her anxiety. “I wished there was another way to sleep train and a way to leave my house without panic.”
As a nurse and later a baby sleep consultant, Carlene saw how many parents struggled with the same issue. Babies needed a dark environment to nap, but covering a pram with a blanket wasn’t safe. “A lot of parents don’t know covering a pram with a muslin or blanket can cause overheating or restricted airflow. Not to mention, a muslin doesn’t block out light, so it doesn’t actually solve the problem.”
Determined to find a better way, she created Baby Sleep Pods, Australia’s first safety-tested blackout pram cover. Made from 100% permeable star mesh fabric, it blocks 97% of light while allowing airflow. Unlike muslin covers, which can increase pram temperatures by nearly 4°C, Baby Sleep Pods raises the temperature by only 0.4°C.
A game-changer for sleep, sun protection, and travel
Baby Sleep Pods is the only pram cover in Australia endorsed by the Infant and Nursery Product Alliance of Australia (INPAA) and tested by ARPANSA, offering 97.5% UV protection. It’s quick to fit and works with all pram brands, including capsules, bassinets, and double prams. It also protects against mosquitoes, making it ideal for travel.
“This product would have made such a difference to me when I had babies. Just to be able to walk around the shops for a couple of hours without stressing about naps—what a relief that would have been,” Carlene says. “To know that I am helping other parents who are struggling with baby sleep or their mental health, that is everything to me.”
