Little Louli Nursery

Little Louli Nursery

A stunning unisex nursery filled with treasures, trinkets and handmade decorations and textiles.

This is my eight-month-old daughter, Frenchy’s room. When I began to style her nursery I chose the wallpaper first, not knowing the sex of the baby. I had seen it on Pinterest and fell in love with it straight away. I wanted the room to be mostly grey and white with either some blue or pink finishing touches thrown in when our little baby arrived. I love neutral and calming nurseries, so the grey and white colour palette seemed like the perfect starting base.

Frenchy loves staring at the beautiful dreamcatcher, which hangs on the wall above her cot. It’s a special piece handmade in Bali and it is just gorgeous.

I have a bit of a bunting obsession, so one of my favourite pieces in her room is the Rifle Paper Co DIY letter banner saying “Our Little Baby Frenchy”. I like the combination of the banner and the diamond garland hanging on the wall above the cot – I’m definitely not a less-is-more kinda person. I also love the beautiful shape of the Ikea cot, which was a good budget-friendly buy.

For the shadow box house I did a bit of a Target ‘hack’, giving it a coat of paint and adding some wallpaper to its inside walls.

The gorgeous heart blanket hanging on the wall was too good not to make into a piece of hanging artwork.

I have my own hand-printed bed linen brand, Little Louli, which features in Frenchy’s room. Little Louli started when our firstborn son, Sunny, was about four months old. I have always been a screen printer and have my own screen printing studio near home. I previously had a clothing label called, Louli, but was looking for a different project to start and was keen to try out something in the homewares area rather than fashion.

I’d had some experience designing and printing bed linen for a shop in Melbourne, so I thought why not focus my attention on hand-printed kids’ bedding. There wasn’t a great deal on the market at the time so it seemed like a great opportunity to launch a new brand. It was very important to me to keep the products Australian-made – each and every piece is hand-printed by me so it really is a labour of love. Everything is designed to mix and match and all the prints work together in a crazy fun way.

If I could give any tips on creating a space for your little one it would be to add things that mean something to you, and don’t be afraid to just keep adding. Mix the old with the new – sometimes it works and sometimes you have to keep playing with combinations to get it right. Babies love looking at colours and textures, and as the mumma you have to spend a lot of time in the room too – so you want to like it as well.
