17 May The Rising Dangers of Fatty Liver Disease
Cardiologist Dr Ross Walker is warning that the number of children diagnosed with fatty liver disease could double over the next decade, with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) already the leading cause of chronic liver disease in kids.
A new study by UK and Italian scientists has linked a sweetener used in fizzy drinks, biscuits, cakes and ice cream to liver disease. Dr Walker warns that obesity is a predictor for NAFLD in children.
“When food manufacturers extract fructose, removing fibre and nutrients for an instant sugar rush, that may increase serum uric acid which increases the risk of liver disease,” he says.
“Many children today who have fatty liver don’t know it because symptoms often don’t show until it’s too late.”
Without early detection, it can lead to serious conditions such as cirrhosis. Prevention is key.
For both kids and adults, Dr Walker recommends BergaMet Pro+, a natural supplement that contains high levels of antioxidants from Calabrian Bergamot oranges, which is clinically proven to directly target cholesterol, reducing the risk of fatty liver.
