04 Dec 2017’s Most Popular Baby Names
This year the push and pull in popularity between traditional and unique baby names is alive as ever!
In 2017 over 500,000 parents submitted their baby’s names to BabyCenter, who went ahead and compiled a list of the top 100 baby names of the last 12 months. Phew, that’s a lot of babies!
For boys, Jackson (and its various spellings) was the most popular name this last year, followed by Liam, Noah, and Aiden. The “ay” sound continued to be a popular trend, with Caden, Grayson, and Mason also making the top 10.
Traditional names stood the test of time with Oliver, Michael, and Alexander in the top 20.
For girls, Sophia was the most popular baby name. Olivia was second, followed by Emma. Names with a unisex feel were also popular, with Riley, Harper, and Brooklyn all in the top 50. Short and sweet seemed the way to go with Mia, Aria, Ava, and Zoey all in the top 10.
Aubrey clocked in at number 13, which we can only hope is a nod to Aubrey Plaza of Parks and Recreation fame. Meanwhile Luna, no doubt inspired by beloved Harry Potter character, Luna Lovegood, also made the list.
