Melbourne mother Jenny Lo shares her bright and elegant baby shower with us and a few styling tips!

I’m originally from Melbourne, but I moved to Sydney after meeting my husband Brendin while working in London. We got married in 2013 and went to Dubai, Cyprus and Maldives for our honeymoon. We found out I was pregnant a few days after my 33rd birthday, which was the best present ever! During my pregnancy, I had really bad morning sickness in the first trimester, but other than that my pregnancy went quite well. Tia was due on the 22nd of July, however she came a week early and we couldn’t be happier.

My husband Brendin and my maid of honour organised the baby shower when I was 34 weeks pregnant. They hired a two bedroom apartment at Grand Apartments in Sydney CBD so I could stay overnight and spend time with girlfriends who flew up from Melbourne. Friends and family attended the baby shower. I wanted the day to have a cheerful and happy vibe that reflected a bundle of joy – so green, yellow, white and grey was the main colour scheme we chose.

The day started with breakfast at my local Centennial Parklands Dining with girlfriends who flew in from Melbourne. At the baby shower, guests were treated to finger foods, lychee bellinis, mojito mocktails, soda stream for the kiddies and a dessert table filled with donuts, macaroons, lemon panna cotta, cupcakes and cake. I also ordered my favourite rice paper rolls, baguettes and sushi and presented them in bite-size portions on the day.

The amazing dessert table was jaw droppingly gorgeous and was the collective effort of family and friends. The cake was made by our wonderfully creative friend Virginia, the delicious macaroons were made by my gorgeous cousin Amy, the cupcakes were made by my beautiful friend Yang and of course the super talented Astrid from PAPERplayground brought everything together with her flawless styling flair.

We played a few party games at the baby shower too: Baby What’s That Song? Tinkle in the Pot and Who Did It? Astrid from PAPERplayground designed all the banners, invites and drink station photo frame. I helped style the drink station and baby bodysuits zigzag banner.

The whole day was beyond perfect, filled with so much love from family and friends. I feel truly blessed to have a husband who wanted to plan his wife’s baby shower. Although he doesn’t want to admit it, I know he was the main driver behind most of the planning, which made the event such a success. I’m also grateful for my maid of honour planning the event from afar and my girlfriends who made the trip to Sydney to celebrate the day with me.

Jenny Lo’s top 5 baby shower tips

1. Personalise the day with the things you love, whether it’s colour, food or theme.

2. Try adding homemade touches to make it extra special.

3. A dessert table will add a ‘wow’ factor and make it extra sweet.

4. Remember that you are loved and that having a baby is an amazing blessing.

5. Have fun on the day!
