24 Jun Family & Kids Movies – Winter School Holidays — July 2026
Big cinema releases for families and kids
For the Australian Winter school holidays (late June–July 2026), there are fewer dedicated family releases, but there are still several big cinema titles that should have wide national release and family appeal.
Toy Story 5
Rated: PG
Runs: 102 mins
Released: June 18, 2026
Trailer: Available via HOYTS / cinema listing
The toys are back, and this time the challenge is not another toy — it’s technology. Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the gang face a new rival when Bonnie becomes fascinated by Lilypad, a child-friendly tablet device that threatens to change playtime forever. Expect the usual Pixar mix of humour, action, emotion and nostalgia, with a very parent-friendly theme about screens, imagination and the way children play. Parents should expect some mild peril, chase/action moments and emotional scenes, but this should be a strong family pick for primary-aged children. Best suited for kids about 5+.
Minions & Monsters
Rated: PG
Runs: 90 mins
Released: June 25, 2026
Trailer: Available via official movie/cinema listings
The Minions return in another loud, silly and chaotic adventure, this time heading into 1920s Hollywood, where their attempts to make a monster movie go badly wrong. When real monsters are accidentally unleashed, the usual Minion mayhem follows. This one should appeal strongly to younger primary school children who enjoy slapstick humour, visual jokes and fast-moving nonsense. Parents should expect cartoon-style monster scares, crashes, chases and noisy action, but the tone is likely to stay playful rather than frightening. Best suited for kids about 5+.
Moana — Live Action
Rated: PG
Runs: approx. 120 mins
Released: July 8, 2026 in Australia and New Zealand
Trailer: Available via Disney / cinema listings
Disney’s much-loved wayfinder returns in a live-action version of Moana, with Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson returning as Maui. The story follows Moana as she sails beyond the reef on a daring ocean journey, with songs, island adventure, family themes and the return of characters including Maui, Pua and Heihei. Families who loved the animated film can expect music, spectacle and some intense adventure scenes, including ocean danger, mythical creatures and moments that may feel bigger or scarier in live action. Best suited for kids about 6+.
Supergirl
Rated: PG
Runs: approx. 110 mins
Released: June 25, 2026
Trailer: Available via Australian cinema listings
This new DC superhero film introduces Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, in a big-screen adventure aimed more at older kids, tweens and teens than very young children. Expect a mix of superhero action, sci-fi/fantasy elements, battles, danger and emotional stakes. It could work well for families with older primary-aged children who already enjoy Marvel/DC-style movies, but parents of younger or sensitive children may want to check the final classification and content notes before booking. Best suited for kids about 10+.
