Fix It, Don’t Ditch It: Join the Repair Challenge 2025 with a $5,000 Prize

Turn Repairs into Rewards—and Help the Planet Too

If you’ve ever wondered whether to repair or replace something around the house, now’s the time to lean into your inner DIY expert. WD-40 Company has just launched the Repair Challenge 2025, inviting Aussies to take on small (or big) repair jobs that not only save money but also help reduce waste and support a more sustainable future.

Running from May 16 to July 31, 2025, the global initiative encourages participants to restore and reuse items rather than sending them to landfill. Whether it’s fixing a squeaky hinge, restoring a rusty bike, or giving an old appliance new life, the challenge is about celebrating the power of repair.

Why Repairing Matters More Than Ever

According to the Circularity Gap Report, the global population has consumed more than 500 billion tonnes of materials in just six years—almost as much as the entire 20th century. The World Bank also reports that annual global waste is set to nearly double by 2050. Repairing instead of replacing plays a crucial role in curbing this trend.

“In the past, repair was motivated by saving money. Today, it’s also driven by sustainability and innovation,” says Louisa Alexander, Marketing Manager at WD-40 Company, Australia. “Adopting a ‘reuse and repair’ mindset is an impactful step toward a more sustainable lifestyle.”

Enter to Win $5,000—and Build Your Skills

To enter, simply share your repair project photos or videos on the Repair Challenge platform. You’ll go in the running to win a $5,000 Visa Gift Card, plus other great prizes. Projects can be done at home or even at your local Repair Café, where tools, materials, and expert guidance are available free of charge.
