Ian Thorpe Challenges Australians to Swim and Save Lives
Sign Up, Set Your Goal, and Make a Difference This March
Olympic gold medalist Ian Thorpe AM is calling on Australians to dive into Laps for Life 2025, an annual swimming fundraiser supporting youth mental health service ReachOut.
In 2024 10,500 individuals across Australia participated in the challenge and together, they swam 98,828 kms and raised $3.4M for ReachOut’s work to support young people’s mental health.
Participants set their own swimming and fundraising goals, swimming anywhere, anytime throughout March. Whether it’s laps at a local pool, ocean swims, or creative challenges, anyone—regardless of age or ability—can take part.
“Every day, a young person in Australia loses their life to suicide,” Thorpe says. “Laps for Life is a way we can work together to raise awareness and funds to help change this.”
Now in its seventh year, the event has built a strong nationwide community. CEO of ReachOut, Gary Groves, says Laps for Life makes a real impact:
“Around 75% of mental health issues develop before 25, and suicide remains the leading cause of death for young Australians. Every dollar raised helps ReachOut support young people when they need it most.”
