General Comments: Melbourne Montessori College (MMC) is an independent, co-educational school offering a seamless learning journey from 18 months to 18 years of age. With campuses in Caulfield and Brighton East, MMC nurtures learners from 18 months to year 12 and prepares students for life beyond the classroom.  The Montessori approach provides hands on, challenging educational opportunities for children from toddlers through to adolescents.

Embedded in the globally respected and recognised Montessori philosophy, MMC empowers students to take ownership of their learning in carefully designed environments that encourage independence, collaboration, and purposeful engagement. As Maria Montessori envisioned, we are a school without rivalries or rigid year levels — a place where students solve real-world problems and develop the ability to work independently, think critically, and act with compassion.

All classrooms are prepared with indoor and outdoor purpose-built environments, plus Montessori materials for students relevant to their developmental level. This allows them to cover all the Australian Curriculum but also pursue their passions and begin to take responsibility for their own education. The School follows the National Montessori Curriculum as ratified by ACARA.

This approach further comes to life in our Senior School in Brighton East, where the Montessori ethos weaves seamlessly into the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. Small by design, our Senior School functions as a close-knit community that is responsive, adaptive, and deeply supportive.

Our IB students enjoy:

  • a remarkable 6:1 student-to-teacher ratio, ensuring meaningful one-on-one guidance and an environment where they feel seen, heard, and empowered
  • one-one personal teacher support
  • agency and personal freedom in their learning – to help them be their best selves
  • a close knit, supportive cohort
  • academic rigour

Our IB educators bring more than academic credentials — they contribute directly to the development of IB curriculum and examinations and offer rich, real-world experience that helps students connect classroom learning to global contexts and future aspirations.
